Expectations are high; inbuilt traits such as multi-dimensional management, organisation, attention to detail, communication and problem solving are extremely valuable but they only take the event professional so far.

During my career I have observed and interacted with many professionals, I have recognised that the most successful have Grit. They are passionate, determined and persevere to achieve long term goals. Their stamina is intense; showing up, working hard every day and overcoming difficulties – failure is not an immediate option! Equally important is Resilience, symbolising durability and emotional strength, optimism and the ability to bounce back from challenges is fierce, failure is viewed as a learning experience and an opportunity.
Adopting a growth mindset, the belief that your abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication is paramount in cultivating grit and resilience. Improvement is essential, continually striving to advance your skills, yields in greater evolution and ultimately, success.

- TAKE CONTROL
Your reaction matters! Give yourself time to process and then react. Control during adversity delivers empowerment and is a direct pathway to confidently handle situations and make decisions. - EMBRACE CHANGE
Change is inevitable, as event professionals we know this all too well, although it does not mean we like it! Accept change, make peace that occasionally things are out of your control. It is essential to give yourself permission to surrender and take the necessary actions for a change and, or recovery strategy. - EAT THE FROG
Work through long term goals with the ‘Eat the Frog’ strategy. Each completed short-term goal (aka task) feeds your momentum, propelling you closer to your long-term goal. How does it work?Draw a quadrant, add the following headings in the order as they appear.
A) Must do, don’t want to do [these are your FROGS!!] B) Must do, want to do
C) Don’t have to do, want to do
D) Don’t have to do, don’t want to doAdd your short-term goals (tasks) to the relevant quadrant, now eat the frogs first, these are the ‘Must do, don’t want to do’s.’ Then move through the quadrants in order, you can move your tasks around into different quadrants as circumstance change. Remember to reward yourself for achieving completed tasks. - MAKE A COMMITMENT
In the face of adversity, it is imperative to step around periods of inaction, there is no room for indecisiveness – take control and decide! Commitment and motivation are best friends with grit and resilience. - LEARN THE LESSON
It is crucial to understand that opportunity presents itself in times of adversity, extract the learnings to grow, gain perspective, take control, and make informed decisions so you can bounce back fast with authority. - BE AN OPTIMIST
Whilst we need to acknowledge the negative it is essential to accept and release it. Make room for the positive, your opportunities and endless possibilities – focus on these, it will energise you! - BE YOUR OWN CHEERLEADER!
